AMD Ryzen 5 4680U. The AMD Ryzen 5 4680U is a thin and light laptop processor based on the Renoir architecture. The 4680U contains six Zen 2 cores that operate at frequencies from 2.1 to 4 GHz. The processor supports SMT and is capable of processing up to 12 threads simultaneously. The chip is manufactured using the 7nm process technology at TSMC’s factory and due to this it has increased performance per watt. Since the Ryzen 5 4680U has two fewer cores than the Ryzen 7 4700U and 4800U, it clearly lags behind them in multi-threaded performance. However, it should still outperform the 15W Ice Lake Intel Core i7-1065G7 (4 cores, 3.9GHz). Thanks to overclocking to 4 GHz, single-core performance should be on par with the mentioned Intel. Thus, the Ryzen 5 4680U is a high performance 15W processor and greatly outperforms the previous Ryzen 7 3700U. In addition to six processor cores, the chip includes integrated Radeon RX Vega 6 graphics with six computing units and a frequency of 1500 MHz. This graphics has been modified and has an improved built-in video decoder, which significantly reduces the load when playing 4K video. Due to this, autonomy is noticeably better in some use cases. The built-in dual-channel memory controller supports DDR4-3200 standard and energy-efficient LPDDR4-4266 memory. The processor contains 8 MB of L3 cache. The TDP level is 15W by default and can be adjusted from 10W to 25W by the manufacturer. That is, this chip is best suited for thin and light laptops with an active cooling system.
